Our very special Beta Xi member, Julia Pala, is a patient care technician currently working on a COVID-19 floor at Christiana Hospital and has asked for our support. Here is a message from Julia:
I currently work on a COVID-19 floor at Christiana Hospital. While at work yesterday, many of my patients were asking if we had any puzzle books such as sudoku or word searchers. We unfortunately had none. The COVID patients I work with are unable to have any visitors at this time and spend most of their time alone. Most are on the older side and are unsure of how to use their cellphones and/or TV. I decided to start a donation box where people could bring in old books, puzzles, and magazines. I thought it would be nice to even make cards that have words of encouragement on them because many of these patients don't have family members to speak to. Any of the following items would be incredibly helpful: phone chargers, word searches, sudoku, books, coloring books, magazines, etc. The patients on my floor would appreciate it so
much.
We have worked together with Julia to create a service opportunity if anyone is interested in donating some old books or puzzles laying around the house, buying a new item from our Amazon Wishlist, or even just mailing her a letter of encouragement to give to her patients on floor 4E at Christiana. For those in the area, there will be collection boxes in McDowell and at the front desk of the STAR Tower as well.
