President's Message

Pia Inguito PhD, RN
Beta Xi Chapter President 2019-2021

Dear Beta Xi members,

Sigma has joined the World Health Organization in celebrating this year, 2020, as the International Year of the Nurse and Nurse Midwife. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, how can we make an impact in promoting better health at the local, regional, and global level? https://www.sigmanursing.org/2020-international-year-of-the-nurse-and-midwife

Before the University of Delaware had officially announced that classes would be all online and spring break would be moved up to March 14, Beta Xi was able to hold a one-day retreat on January 26 at the STAR Tower to review the strategic plan and the key award application. I would like to thank the board and committee members for all the time and effort devoted to these tasks. In addition, Nikki Moody was able to coordinate the Ronald McDonald House event on March 3 with about 10 volunteers who cooked dinner for the families staying there. However, the Beta Xi induction on April 21 Beta Xi induction for the Traditional BSN students had to be postponed until fall of 2020 as well as the Evidence-Based Practice and Preceptor Appreciation dinner event that was to be held sometime in May. Looking ahead to fall, if the University of Delaware opens back up, Beta Xi Chapter and the School of Nursing plan to have a fall event to celebrate the Year of the Nurse!

During this pandemic crisis, we need to support each other and follow the guidelines set forth by the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. As we continue social distancing, please keep in touch via the Circle for updates. It has been an emotional and difficult time for most of us during these uncertain times but we will continue to focus on keeping Beta Xi as an active chapter. Beta Xi’s next major plan is to become a Chapter-at-large to extend and increase membership with practice and academic partners. If you are interested in becoming more involved, please speak with or e-mail a board member if you are interested in running for an office or committee. We welcome new thoughts and ideas as we foster nursing research, global ideals, and the enhancement of the nursing profession. You can also continue to check out our Facebook page at Sigma Theta Tau Beta Xi Chapter and follow us on Twitter: @BetaXiBird. You can also check us out on LinkedIn.

It is during these difficult times that we instill Sigma President Richard Ricciardi’s Call to Action, Infuse Joy, through awareness, balance & purpose, and co-creation, in our personal and professional lives. https://www.sigmanursing.org/why-sigma/organizational-leadership/presidential-call-to-action-2019-2021

Congratulations Beta Xi!

  • Upper Bay Holiday Outreach

    Hello everyone!

Beta Xi will be facilitating the Annual Holiday Outreach Collection benefiting Upper Bay Counseling and Support Services. As part of a full spectrum of mental health services, Upper Bay provides custodial care for 40 of the most severely and persistently mentally ill adults through their residential program. Clients in this program have only a small stipend each month (about $30.00) to purchase all of their clothes, hygiene products, and other personal items. For this reason, this year we are sponsoring the clients in this program, and providing them with items from their wish list. In order to make this event a success, we need the help of Beta Xi and friends! Instead of collecting gifts in person, Upper Bay has created an Amazon Wishlist that you can purchase requested items for each individual. After the purchase of the item it will automatically be sent to Upper Bay so that they can wrap the presents in time for the holidays. Please do not feel obligated to purchase multiple items. Every little bit helps, so anything you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help! Feel free to share the link with family and friends, every donation is appreciated!

    Thank you!
